Living Under the Trees

Where: Arango Foyer, Institute of the Americas Complex
A series of powerful photographs by award-winning journalist and documentary photographer David Bacon, this exhibition features moving narratives that explore the unique challenges facing California’s indigenous Mexican communities. It documents the consequences of economic dislocation from Mexico and the challenges these dislocated communities face in California. The exhibit also celebrates the culture and community spirit that sustains these migrants who are agents of change, questioning unfair work conditions, working for better housing and making critical decisions about their community. This exhibition runs through November 27th.

Careers in International Law and Development – Spotlight on Africa

Presented by Ed Spriggs, Association Vice Chancellor, UC San Diego. Mr. Spriggs graduated from Revelle College in 1970 with a B.A. in Economics. After receiving a Juris Doctorate Degree from New York University School of Law, he joined a private law firm in Washington, D.C. and practiced international corporate law. In 1979, he joined the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as Regional Legal Advisor for East Africa and later served as Director of East Africa Affairs for USAID. He also served as Director, USAID Regional Center for Southern Africa, a position in which he was responsible for strategic design and management of USAID economic assistance for 14 countries in Southern Africa.

My India – Where Every Village is Home
